In late September the crazy-talented Mar from Amsterdam performed his track ‘I said’ for the second installment of Another Take Sessions at a nice spot just off Broadway Market in Hackney, London.

Late last summer we launched ‘Another Take Sessions’ with a beautiful performance by Jono McCleery. Time for round two…
In September we met up with Amsterdam-based soul singer Mar for an exclusive performance of ‘I Said’ – a track originally produced by his homie Full Crate. The acoustic rendition of this sultry ballad is a good indication of the young Dutchman’s potential.
Besides his EP ‘Conversations With Her’, which features ‘I Said’ and other Full Crate collabos, Mar has made a name for himself with a series of unique cover versions entitled ‘Mar Variations.’ In case you haven’t checked them out: do so ASAP. Unlike the many wack reinterpretations and remixes that have amassed on YouTube, his is a work of sheer originality.
If you’re anything like me, hearing the first few notes of George Michael’s ‘Last Christmas’ in the run-up to December 25th is probably filling your heart with hatred instead of yultetide joy. It used to drive me up the wall…until I heard Mar’s variation. Dope! When a musician get’s me listening to a song I have such a deep-rooted hatred for, I know I’m dealing with someone special.
Have a listen for yourselves:
Currently Mar is back in the studio working on his new album, which is said to be more R’n’B orientated. Production will be handled by the usual suspects – Full Crate and FS Green. Definitely something we here at Taste Hub are looking forward to. The next Variation is also nearly ready for release. Keep your eyes peeled and make sure you ‘like’ Mar Variations on FB to get regular updates. The world needs more Mar – show love and support!
